Fall Semester Update 2020
July 17, 2020
Dear Serra Family,
With Governor Newsom’s recent announcement, my wife quoted Proverbs in Spanish to me, “Uno propone y Dios dispone.” Proverbs 16:1 "Man’s heart makes the plans, Yahweh, gives the answer.” Serra’s hearts have been making the plans yet the COVID-19 surges and everyone’s health and safety is a living Serra tenet.
We have received notice from our Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Paul Escala, that schools will begin in August with distance learning. I continue to be hopeful and pray to see each and everyone of you in the near future on campus - God willing.
Junipero Serra High School has been and will continue to make the plans for hybrid cohorts with in person teaching when we are allowed to open our doors. Our teachers will easily transition from distance learning to our cohort model as they did from in person to distance learning back in March. I wish to commend our teachers as they have your children in their hearts. They are flexible and have learned plenty since March 2020 to continue to give the best instruction during this distance learning. Serra and our faculty will meet these demands to deliver the best student centered and academically focused instruction. Serra will continue to teach, as we do so well, in our Catholic tradition. Our faculty will meet your children’s needs in our inclusive, diverse, and Catholic family. We will have virtual mass and adoration to continue our faith development and faith journeys together to foster our Serra community.
Our love and collaboration for your children will ensure Serra’s tradition of excellence is maintained as our mission remains the same - your children! We are all in this together as a Serra family and we will continue to rise to this occasion to provide the best experience possible for our students and families.
Please see Paul Escala, Superintendent of Schools letter below.
Thank you for your trust and understanding.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Jeff Guzman
Principal
