Dr. Brian Bartel
I started working at Serra in 2021, after 19 years of teaching at Cathedral.
My education includes 2 bachelor's degrees from Oberlin College/Conservatory of Music, in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, and Percussion Performance. My MM and DMA are both from USC's Thornton School of Music. I also have a Multiple Subject Credential, after completing a program at CSULB. I'm from Minnesota and went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, in Michigan.
I enjoy teaching and shooting archery, volunteer extensively with the Boy Scouts of America, and also participate as an umpire, scorekeeper, and organist for Little League and Pony baseball programs.
My wedding was the night of December 31st, 1999, and the ceremony ended in the first few minutes of January 1st, 2000, so it is really easy to figure out how long I've been married. My daughter is 8, and my son is 13.
At Serra, I teach band, choir, piano, geometry, and honors geometry.
Thanks,
Dr. Bartel
