Junipero Serra High School is not a stranger to producing exciting news, and a recent announcement is no different. Coming in May 2016 will be Serra’s first-ever school-sponsored golf tournament. The festive day will take place at Chester L. Washington Golf Course in Los Angeles on Friday, May 20. Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Brian Cooper ‘74 is a member of Serra’s Alumni Council and has been tabbed as director of the Serra Cavalier Golf Classic. The alumnus is beyond excited, “Serra holds a special place in my heart and is a big part of my life. Football games, homecomings, reconnecting with classmates and just being on campus is special. The family atmosphere created by Serra students, faculty and parents is unique and I love it.”
Cooper’s sentiments are similar to those that have a relationship with Serra or get a chance to know Cavalier students.
The mission of the scramble format golf tournament is to support Serra’s vital tuition assistance program benefiting all Cavalier students. Nearly three-quarters of Serra students get the opportunity to attend the Catholic school because of this program.
The greater community and businesses are encouraged to participate. Underwriting opportunities range from $500 to $6,000 with sponsorships available from $1,200 to $3,000. Individual golfers are invited to play for $125 which includes green fees, golf cart, prizes, a special goodie bag and dinner. Take part in dinner, a silent auction and an opportunity drawing following golf.
