Gardena, CA, January 17, 2014: Basketball Coach, Dean of Students, and living legend Dwan Hurt celebrated his 500th career victory last month at the Modesto Tournament. Last Friday, the school honored Hurt by presenting him with a trophy at halftime of the game versus La Salle.
Hurt was surprised during the presentation when members of the 1993 State Championship basketball team showed up to help present the award. "It was so exciting seeing those guys back, and it was truly an honor and surprise. I was humbled," Hurt said after the game.
The key to 500 wins? Hurt said it's all about longevity. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d win 100 games, let alone 500. And I didn’t think I’d be here for 25 years, either. But this is my home, and I was excited to see members of the '93 team back at their home, too. Serra is a special place."
