Hello everyone!
Six of our soon-to-be seniors and I recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica. It was a first for Serra and focused on biology, chemistry, water toxicology, and environmental studies. Another plus is that the students all get college credit! For seven days, these students traveled to four cities in Costa Rica exploring the rainforests, volcanoes, rivers, and many new animals. They conducted research on bats, went white water rafting, zip-lined over the rainforest canopy, and hiked through the rainforest exploring animals such as monkeys, sloths, frogs, birds, bats, snakes, and many bright colored insects.
Costa Rica is one of the only countries in Central America that does not have an army and once we met all of the friendly, welcoming, kind people, we immediately understood why. The Costa Rican saying is "Pura Vida" which means "purely living." Once we were there, we adopted this way of life and lived every day happy and carefree. Needless to say it was a trip that we will all never forget! I am hoping to make this opportunity available for Serra students every two years.
