The Serra Jazz Band has had several successful public performances. On February 25th we participated in Gardena's Black History celebration at Rowley Park. Shortly after that, we made history as the first high school Jazz Band to perform at the 2nd Street Jazz Club in Little Tokyo. This was an amazing night – we packed the house! Following that great performance, we hit the road and journeyed up to the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival earning the Serra Nation a rating of “Excellent.” The night of the festival, we found ourselves making new friends from Torrance’s Bishop Montgomery High School and were blessed by the Marriot’s indulgence of our make shift “jam session.” Music, fellowship and new friends – what a great trip.
We are not done yet, as the pulse of our musical heart, the Serra Drumline, will be performing on Saturday, April 28th, as part of the Lawndale Youth Parade, starting at 10:00AM.
We finish our musical year with a Spring Concert in Serra’s own Gymnasium on May 17th at 7pm . We hope you are able to join us for this musical farewell to this school year, with our minds set on the next opportunity for us to come together in music!
