It is that time of year. High school seniors are on the edge of the next step of their life journey. They are receiving the last of their college acceptances. They and their parents are making decisions about where that next step of the journey will lead, and they are attempting to figure out how to pay for that next step. One of our seniors has less to worry about as it relates to paying for college.
Joelle Walley, Serra senior extraordinaire, has been named as the recipient of the Gardena Police Foundation College Scholarship. The scholarship is a $4000 award, and is only awarded to about 10 seniors in the South Bay area. Last year the award was also captured by a Serra senior, Anyela Saa.
Walley has great choices in front of her, as she has already been accepted at UC Berkeley, and she is waiting for answers from Harvard and, her first choice, Stanford. Walley is so happy and grateful to have received the scholarship award. "I was so happy," said Walley. "All of the money will help me do better in college. It showed me that someone believes in me and is willing to invest in me. Walley will receive the award at an awards luncheon at GTrans in the Ballenger Conference Room in Gardena on Thursday, April 4 at 11 am. Walley is eager for the event. "I want to say thank you to the foundation for the scholarship," said Walley. "This means more resources that I would not have had. Thank you!" And thank you, Joelle, for being an awesome Cavalier.
